PMT Foundation Awards $8000 in Scholarships

Four Magic Valley graduates will each be awarded a $2000 PMT Foundation scholarship. They are Jaime Mojarra of Burley High School, Madeleine Quast of Twin Falls High School, Kabre Madrigal and Macie Merrill of Minico High School. All four showed outstanding academic performance, as well as exemplary community and extra-curricular involvement and dedication to their future education.

“It is a pleasure that we are able to award each of these four local students a $2000 PMT Foundation scholarship to help further their education. All four of this year’s scholarship recipients are fine examples of hard work, dedication and responsibility,” said PMT Foundation Board Chairman, Alan Johnson. In the past 26 years, PMT, and now the PMT Foundation, have awarded $120,500 in scholarships to our communities’ children. The four recipients are from across the Magic Valley.

Jamie Mojarra of Burley is a hard-working graduate from Burley High School, who maintained a 3.9 GPA while being involved in many extra-curricular activities and clubs, as well as working outside of school. Jamie was the president of the Leo Club, as well as the Burley Special Olympics Partnership program. He was also an active member of the Business Professionals of America, FFA, National Honor Society, and Spanish Club. He has spent countless hours volunteering his time at area elementary schools and in the community. He plans on attending the University of Idaho this fall, majoring in Agricultural Systems Management.

Madeleine Quast of Twin Falls is a dedicated student who graduated from Twin Falls High School with a 3.94 GPA. Madeleine took a challenging course load, taking many dual-credit and AP classes during her high school career, as well as being involved in cheerleading, and acting as the managing editor of the Bruin News. Madeline was also involved in Business Professionals of America, National Honor Society, and was a Twin Falls Chamber of Commerce Student Ambassador. Madeleine also made time to run her own piano studio teaching lessons outside of school hours. Madeleine plans on attending BYU-Idaho, majoring in Communications.

Kabre Madrigal of Paul is a dedicated student and athlete graduate from Minico High School, who maintained a 3.97 GPA. Kabre took many honors classes, while participating on Minico’s Track and Field team, as well as being involved in National Honor Society, Science Club, and on the school’s journalism staff. Kabre also worked part-time helping in her family’s lawn care business and farm. Kabre plans on attending the College of Idaho where she will continue her athletic career, while working towards an undergraduate degree in Health Science. She plans on attending graduate school after that to become a licensed physical therapist.

Macie Merrill of Rupert graduated top of her class at Minico High School. She has worked hard during her high school career taking challenging courses while maintaining a 4.0 GPA. She’s been involved in student body government, National Honor Society, Key Club, “M” Club, Fuel Up to Play 60, as well as participating on the Minico basketball and volleyball teams. Macie has also volunteered her time outside of school, as well as working part time. Macie aspires to be a surgeon and will start off her college career at Idaho State University in their Pre-Med program.

In its tenth year of existence, the PMT Foundation’s creation was authorized by the PMT Board of Directors as a Charitable Foundation for the purposes of supporting worthy community projects and educational scholarships. Its mission states: “The PMT Foundation furthers education in communities served by PMT through its scholarship program, and supports projects and programs that sustain and improve those communities.”
